  78. Sumitomo Chemical To Resume Epoxy Resin Production 11/12/93

  80. TOKYO, JAPAN, 1993 NOV 12 (NB) -- Sumitomo Chemical will resume
  81. production of epoxy resin in early December. Epoxy resin is
  82. necessary to produce memory chips, and the return of
  83. production means a worldwide shortage of memory chips may
  84. end soon.

  86. Sumitomo Chemical has dominated worldwide production of epoxy
  87. resin. The supply was interrupted in July with an explosion at
  88. the plant. That led to a reduction in the general chip supply.
  89.  
  90. Sumitomo Chemical will not resume production of a 16-megabit
  91. DRAM yet. The company says it must await a report from the
  92. fire department and the police concerning the actual cause
  93. of the explosion.
  94.  
  95. Meanwhile, another chemical firm, Nippon Kayaku, says it will
  96. produce resin for 16-megabit DRAM. Its production line
  97. is currently under the construction.
  98.  
  99. Since the accident, most Japanese semiconductor firms
  100. have started to look for other materials to replace
  101. epoxy resin. But due to the costs, that search is expected to
  102. take some time.

  169. The above quote seems to say that anyone can call for help if
  170. the situation warrants it; it does not prohibit anything, except
  171. "routine or non-emergency communications."

  173. Im no expert on interpreting this stuff, so kindly correct me if
  174. this is wrong.

  176. Regardless of the proper interpretation of the above quote, as far
  177. as Im concerned, ANY such laws are just ink on paper during an
  178. emergency.  I'd rather be a living law breaker than a dead law-abider.
  179. (Admittedly this is an extreme example, but you get the idea.)

  248. The local repeater just had the pl code turned on.  My OLD kenwood
  249. tr2600 can't handle the sophistication.  Does anyone have any info
  250. on how I can modify this radio to handle pl encode and decode?  I
  251. guess the other alternative is to buy another radio......

  296. I've been using Hyperlog for general logging purposes.  (I think it 
  297. isn't quite efficient enough for a contest, and doesn't give contest 
  298. info (QSO's per hour, total points, multipliers, etc.) but it is a 
  299. nice program for general logging purposes.
  300.     In addition to all the normal stuff, it tracks WAS and DXCC, and it 
  301. has a WINDOW that allows you to monitor or connect to the DX Cluster.  
  302. It even keeps tracks of DX spots it hears (whether you're connected or 
  303. not) so you can leave the radio on, come into the room at any time and 
  304. his a key to see the latest spots.
  305.      Hyperlog comes as Shareware, but if you decide to keep it you 
  306. MUST register and pay $45.00.  If you don't register, the program has 
  307. built in nag screens that will drive you crazy.  Anyway, I like it; 
  308. you can try the shareware free for a month or more, and then decide.

  428. I have a friend whose newly aquired TS440 is hanging up on xmit.... or so
  429. the transmit LED indicates...
  430.  
  431. The xcvr does not return to rcv. but he can not hear a side tone w/LED on.
  432. It all resets back to normal when he powers down and back on again.  But the
  433. same problem reoccurs.
  434.  
  435. I had this happen to me once or twice while operating and had to do the same
  436. thing (I also have a TS440) but the problem seemed to disappear.  I never had
  437. a chance to troubleshoot because it never returned.
  438.  
  439. Is it likely that it might have something to do with hanging relay or with RF
  440. getting into something through a cord??? I didn't ask him how well his shack
  441. is grounded, but he has not had any problems with his TenTec Century.....
  442.  
  443. I put a note out on packet and received two suggestions... one was stray RF 
  444. and the other was thermal....  BTW, his shack is out in a cold garage... but
  445. that doesn't explain MY problem as mine is in the comfort of the family room 
  446. and my shack is very well grounded from the standpoint of RF.

  493.   The rules, the text of which I posted last week, do not address the
  494.   severity of threat.  They only specify threat to life or property.
  495.   A few years ago I came upon a lady withy a disabled car on the shoulder
  496.   of I90 in the western Chicago suburbs during rush hour.  Being parked on
  497.   the shoulder of an expressway is a danger to both life and property.  I
  498.   used the autopatch to try to to contact a gas station that could provide
  499.   her service under her auto club (Chicago Motor Club).  I was unable to do
  500.   contact one, so I called the state police and they agreed to contact a gas
  501.   station that could provide her with service.

  550. about 98 % in the desired direction or less than 0.1 dB missmatch loss.

  564. Tunning this 1.33:1 SWR down to 1:1 will only increase the forward
  565. power by less than 0.1 dB and thus it is hardly justified to try to
  566. get down to 1:1. It would be much better if the "SWR-meters" where 
  567. calibrated in the reverse/forward power ratio and not in SWR. It would 
  568. be easier to undersrand what is going on in the transmission line.
